The U.S. State Department confirmed on Friday morning that the U.S. and Taliban have "reached an understanding" and will be taking steps toward peace, including a seven-day "reduction of violence" to be followed per a signed agreement.
Both parties are expected to sign the agreement on February 29, according to a statement from Secretary of State Mike Pompeo on Friday. The agreement will lead to intra-Afghanistan peace talks that will hopefully "deliver a comprehensive and permanent ceasefire and the future political roadmap for Afghanistan," Pompeo said.
