There are now 805 confirmed or probable cases of lung illness related to using e-cigarettes, a 52 percent surge in the last week, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

At least 12 people in total have died across 10 states, the CDC said. Officials still are not entirely sure what is making people sick, but they are sure it is related to e-cigarette use.

“Most patients have reported a history of using e-cigarette products containing THC. Many patients have reported using THC and nicotine. Some have reported the use of e-cigarette products containing only nicotine,” the CDC said.

The last data from the CDC confirmed 530 probable cases and seven death and came on September 17.
