U.S. Secretary of the Interior David L. Bernhardt announced this week that from Veterans Day onward, all veterans and Gold Star families will be given free access to the country's national parks, wildlife refuges, and any land managed by the federal government.

"With the utmost respect and gratitude, we are granting Veterans and Gold Star Families free access to the iconic and treasured lands they fought to protect starting this Veterans Day and every single day thereafter," Bernhardt said.

The decision will open up 2,000 different locations and more than 400 million acres of land to veterans and Gold Star families free of charge.

The decision also includes the waiving of "standard amenity recreation fees" associated with hiking, fishing, paddling, biking, hunting, stargazing, climbing, and more.
