The Virginia Senate passed numerous pro-LGBT bills Tuesday, including a repeal on the state's ban on same-sex marriage.
Openly gay lawmaker Sen. Adam Ebbin, introduced SB 17 which sought to repeal Virginia's ban on same-sex marriage. The bill passed with a 25-13 vote.
A ban on conversion therapy was also passed. Critics of this practice say it's traumatic for patients and has led to suicides.
The final two bills passed on Tuesday include establishing statewide policies for the treatment of transgender students and replacing "husband and wife" with "parties to the marriage" in divorce court.
The bills will now move to the House of Delegates where a favorable outcome is expected.
