Vice President Mike Pence met with pope Francis at the Vatican Friday for an hour-long private conversation.
Prior to their private meeting while journalist were still present and taking pictures, Pence extended the "warmest greeting on behalf of President Trump," who was attending the March for Life event in Washington D.C.
In an interview immediately following his private conversation, Pence mentioned that the march in the U.S. capital was among the many topics he discussed with the pope.
Pence applauded Pope Francis for his "passion for the sanctity of life."
At the conclusion of their meeting, the two leaders participated in the traditional exchange of gifts.
Pence presented the pope with a large, wooden cross made from a tree planted in his official residence in Washington while Francis gave the vice president five bound books of his writings as pope.
