Walmart announced Friday that it will begin limiting the number of customers allowed inside its stores at one time and will also create one-way traffic for shopper in an effort to slow down the spread of coronavirus.
According to a statement released by Walmart, "Stores will now allow no more than five customers for each 1,000 square feet at a given time..." Once the limit has been reached, "customers will be admitted inside on a '1-out-1-in' basis."
Starting next week, many stores will use directional markers to help shoppers maintain one-way foot traffic to avoid coming into close contact with others.
Walmart's executive vice president Dacona Smith said the new policy will eliminate "undue risk" for its shoppers.
"While many of our customers have been following the advice of the medical community regarding social distancing and safety, we have been concerned to still see some behaviors in our stores that put undue risk on our people."
