Oakland, California, and Aurora, Colorado, experienced violent riots over the weekend that included the torching of courthouses in both cities.
In Oakland, the city police department announced a blaze at the Alameda County Courthouse about 1:30 in the morning.
As the riot continued escalating, the department begged the organizers of the protest to work with them to maintain peace.
Meanwhile, police in Aurora were dealing with similar unrest.
As rioters attempted to enter the courthouse, tearing apart wooden window covers to use as shields, police said officers were facing increased violence.
The escalating situation was quickly classified an unlawful assembly and rioters were ordered to disperse.
? Oakland and Aurora were not the only cities facing weekend violence. Seattle, Washington, also saw rioters burn a youth detention center.
