The White House formally announced Tuesday that it will not comply with what it calls the “illegitimate and unconstitutional” impeachment inquiry against President Trump.

In a defiant eight-page letter sent to the House Democrats, the White House blasted the probe as a sham, saying, “Put simply, you seek to overturn the results of the 2016 election and deprive the American people of the President they have freely chosen.”

“Given that your inquiry lacks any legitimate constitutional foundation, any pretense of fairness, or even the most elementary due process protections, the Executive Branch cannot be expected to participate in it,” White House Counsel Pat Cipollone wrote.
