The White House announced on Thursday that it would be redirecting another $3.8 billion from the Pentagon to fund President Trump's signature border wall project, likely an indication that the president is hoping to tout the project going into the 2020 election season.

The total amount allocated from the Pentagon to the wall is now around $10 billion. Around a third of the most recent sum comes from National Guard funds, with the rest coming from defense.

The president has cited a rule that allows barriers to be built in high-traffic drug corridors. Democrats have accused the White House of "disrespecting the separation of powers" by taking the money without going through official congressional channels first.
