A French woman made a shocking discovery recently when she learned that the painting hanging in her kitchen was made by a 13th-century master painter.
The art was discovered after the woman decided to move and brought in an expert from an auctioneer. The painting, which had hung over a cooking hotplate, is the masterpiece “Christ Mocked” by Cimabue, an Italian painter from the 1200s. Cimabue taught the painter Giotto, one of the most famous artists of the Middle Ages.
The painting is reportedly valued at up to $6.6 million and will be sold at auction.
