The female Los Angeles County Sheriff's deputy who, along with her male partner, was severely wounded in an ambush while sitting in their patrol call on Saturday, is being credited with providing life-saving emergency medical treatment to her partner.
Despite having been shot through the jaw and both arms, she contacted dispatch for assistance, applied a tourniquet to his wounds, and maneuvered the two of them out of the vehicle and in a defensive position behind a pillar in case of further attack.
The 31-year-old female deputy, who is the mother of a 6-year-old boy, is being heralded by her superiors for her bravery .
"She helped the other wounded deputy, got on the radio, provided medical care, got him to a place of safety 'cause they didn't know if there was another attack coming their way," Sheriff Alex Villanueva said.
The male deputy suffered gunshot wounds in the arm, hand, and forehead. Both deputies have been on the force for a little more than a year.
