I legitimately don't understand how they don't get it. It's been over three years now. There have been countless articles written, examples given, memes distributed, all instructing the cultural, political, and media elites precisely how it is that we "got Trump." And unless these left-wing bettors are all secretly Trump fans surreptitiously angling to get the president a second term, it's obvious they still don't get it.
For evidence, consider as Exhibit 1,582 this video clip being shared across mainstream and social media outlets:
If you don't pick up on what's going on there, it's champagne-sipping, elitist world "leaders" mocking President Trump and his fascination with holding press conferences rather than joining them inside their soiree of sophistication.
And somehow, some way, refined liberal elites don't realize that that reputation is precisely, exactly, 100% the motivating factor behind the Trump base. It doesn't matter if you say, "But Trump is an elitist billionaire himself!" It doesn't matter if you argue, "Trump was born into more wealth than any of these leaders have ever known."
Even if that's true, Trump painted himself the persona of an outsider who hates the arrogant stupidity and phony erudition of political power brokers. If that's an act, it's one that sold (and still sells) perfectly with his off-the-cuff speaking style, his obviously unfiltered tweets, and his persistent rankling of the established political class in D.C. The angrier lifetime politicians get with him, the more his supporters love him.
And that's exactly what Ivy League academics, and highbrow progressives can't seem to grasp. They think circulating this video will hurt Trump, but absolutely nothing could be further from the truth. In fact, I would be shocked if this clip isn't used by President Trump's campaign in the 2020 election cycle.
The average American voter sees French President Macron hobnobbing with his wealthy, powerful friends all while his countrymen take to the streets to protest the oppressive tax burden he inflicts on them.
They see Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau as the epitome of a political fraud – a man who virtue signals relentlessly while appearing in blackface more times than he can remember. It's no wonder many Americans cheer when they hear their president call Trudeau "two-faced."
Far be it from me to stand in the way of any progressive implosion, but how the left can persist in this terrific political miscalculation defies all logic.
